President’s Message – September 2013

Hello and welcome back!

In the past few months we’ve been hard at work putting together what promises to be a fantastic NERC conference (April 7-9, 2014 in Sturbridge). Thanks to the incredible work done by our conference chair Gorman Lee, we will be offering our first satellite workshop at the National Archives in Waltham as well as a college job fair. We will have full day workshops on advanced courses, differentiated instruction, common core strategies, and civil war resources.

On Tuesday author Jonathan Greene will discuss how we can incorporate issues on human rights in social studies classes. Wednesday’s keynote will be Kenneth Davis, author of the Don’t Know Much About… series. Vernon Domingo will be our keynote speaker at Monday’s awards night and will address the issue of advocacy for social studies. Award nomination forms are located on our website by clicking on the MCSS awards tab. Our judges love to stay busy so please take the time to nominate a deserving colleague.

Our full conference preview book will be available online very soon. You will also have the ability to find detailed information about each session, clinic, and workshop on our website. If you have any questions or suggestions please click on the contact us tab and send us a message. We are your voice for all things social studies in Massachusetts and beyond.
