Though party nominating conventions have lost their suspense, that’s still where the intricate nominating systems and the factious battles for platform language play out. This session explores the creation, evolution, and current state of party conventions—from their infancy, to primary elections, to today’s predictable prime-time spectacle. The session also asks, “Have the party elites properly connected with the rank-and-file community?”
