The Impact of Survivor Testimony: Teaching about Genocide using the Armenian Case

Monday 8:30 Room C-1

Presenters: Roxanne Makasdjian, Seda Aghamianz, Dikran Kaligian, The Genocide Education Project

During WWI, Ottoman Turkey systematically annihilated 1.5 million Armenians, more than half of the Armenian population living in their historic homeland. The testimonies of survivors, including numerous recently translated memoirs, provide a compelling lens to better engage students with the history and effects of the Armenian Genocide. Educators will receive classroom materials including videos, photographs, and lesson plans. The lesson plan presented in the session will use the Armenian Genocide as a case study.
