2017 Statewide Fall Conference

To Sustain an Informed Citizenry

Massachusetts Council for the Social Studies (Mass Council) is proud to announce it will host its annual one-day statewide fall conference.

Friday, October 20, 2017
Holiday Inn & Suites-Marlborough
265 Lakeside Avenue, Marlborough, Massachusetts.

This year’s theme is To Sustain an Informed Citizenry.Social Studies is a large academic field that is intended to prepare students to hold the “Office of Citizen” and is essential for responsible citizenship in areas such as history and government, geography, economics, sociology, and communication.Social Studies creates opportunities for students to apply critical thinking and content knowledge to analyze information on complex issues and to seek solutions to real-world problems. An informed citizenry is essential for the success of the United States to meet its domestic and international responsibilities, according to many leaders and observers both here and abroad (Packer, 2016). The idea of an informed citizenry has always been a crucial ingredient in the United States’ success (Brown, 1996).
