Don Salvucci Award for Excellence in Promoting Civic Education

Don Salvucci was a president of MCSS in the 1970s and his passion was civic education. In his honor an award was created in the area of citizenship education. Because of the broadness of the category, it could be awarded for accomplishments in a number of academic areas and activities, but it is always for a classroom teacher who emphasizes and teaches the importance of democratic ideals and responsibilities.

The award consists of a free trip to the Northeast Regional Conference on the Social Studies including registration, hotel and food expenses and a plaque presented on the opening evening of the conference.

To nominate someone for the award, write an essay-letter describing the nominee’s accomplishments and activities in the area of citizenship education. Please enclose a brief biography of the nominee, as well.

Send the nomination to Steven Goode, 107 Union St., Brighton, MA 02135.

Deadline is November 15, 2009.
