Exciting Class Activity for the 2008 Presidential ElectionWe want to introduce you to Open Caucus – a free, national civics activity for high school classrooms that gives students real-life opportunities to participate in the 2008 elections. This past semester, we registered 4,000 students throughout the country for the activity, and a week and a half ago brought 18 Open Caucus students from 9 cities to Des Moines where the students created a feature-length documentary of a presidential forum there. This was an incredibly exciting project, with students gaining first-hand experience in the presidential campaigns and gaining invaluable film-making experience with award-winning filmmakers. We’re now in the process of editing the documentary and are planning to release it in 2008. For this coming spring semester of Open Caucus, we plan on offering similar opportunities to engage participating students in the political process and offer them real-world opportunities to make their voices heard. We’d love for as many students as possible to participate in the coming spring semester of Open Caucus — and we’re particularly looking to enroll more classes in Boston. Steve Dooley
