Now What? A four-part workshop series for administrators and curriculum leaders on implementing the revised History and Social Science Framework and Civics Project

Massachusetts Council for the Social Studies will present a four-part workshop series for curriculum directors, department chairs/heads, and lead teachers and history content specialists on revising and developing American history curriculum map, pacing guides, and unit guide templates to align with the 2018 Massachusetts History and Social Science Curriculum Framework and also prepare students to develop student-led non-partisan Civics projects in eighth grade and high school.

This workshop series is designed for social studies administrators and lead teachers and content specialists to collaborate. explore, discuss, share best practice, and develop plans for their respective school districts including, but not limiting to, developing in-service professional development for staff, planning curriculum development strategies and action steps, and preparing long-term budgets to support implementation to changes in the curriculum.
Location: Braintree High School, Braintree, MA – Teacher Conference Room, 2nd Floor

  • Session 1: Friday, January 31 – 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.
  • Topic: Civics Project ideas, discussion on logistics, planning, PD opportunities


  • Session 2: Friday, February 7 – 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.
  • Topic: Elementary social studies: challenges, curriculum sequence, PD opportunities
  • Session 3: Friday, February 28 – 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.
  • Topic: Secondary social studies: challenges, budgeting, personnel, curriculum sequence, PD opportunities
  • Session 4: Friday, March 20 – 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.
  • Topic: Administration challenges
  • Optional follow-up: Monday, April 6 at NERC in Boston – 1:30 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. (registration fee required)
In case of inclement weather or school cancelation, session would then be hosted through ZOOM live web conference.
