2019 Statewide Fall Conference

PREPARING STUDENTS TO HOLD THE OFFICE OF CITIZEN

Massachusetts Council for the Social Studies (Mass Council) is proud to announce it will host its annual one-day statewide fall conference.

Friday, October 25, 2019
Holiday Inn & Suites-Marlborough
265 Lakeside Avenue, Marlborough, Massachusetts.

Social Studies is a large academic field that is intended to prepare students to hold the “Office of Citizen” and is essential for responsible citizenship in areas such as history and government, geography, economics, sociology, and communication.Social Studies creates opportunities for students to apply critical thinking and content knowledge to analyze information on complex issues and to seek solutions to real-world problems. An informed citizenry is essential for the success of the United States to meet its domestic and international responsibilities, according to many leaders and observers both here and abroad (Packer, 2016). The idea of an informed citizenry has always been a crucial ingredient in the United States’ success (Brown, 1996).

We are now accepting exhibitor applications for the fall conference. In the past, we have provided tables for exhibitors in the hotel lobby. This year, we will be dedicating part of the ballroom for the exhibit area and exclusive time (i.e., no workshops or programs will be occurring) for exhibitors to showcase their products and services to our conference attendees after lunch between 1:00 p.m. and 1:45 p.m.

The application fee is $350 payable to Massachusetts Council for the Social Studies. The fee will provide you with a table at the exhibit area and lunch. You are responsible for bringing your own extension power cords and technology hardware. Free Wi-Fi will be made available and the hotel will provide technology support if needed.
