President’s Message – Winter 2017

We are well underway with the 2017-2018 school year, and it is certainly a critical year for history and social studies education in Massachusetts. Your Massachusetts Council for the Social Studies has been heavily engaged in the process to develop and disseminate information about the newly proposed history and social science frameworks, which will be voted on by the Massachusetts Board of Elementary and Secondary Education in June.  Please take a moment to read through the draft frameworks and to share your feedback with the DESE as they enter into a period of revision before the final vote.  Information about the frameworks, the link to the feedback form, and postings on upcoming professional development related to the frameworks can be found here:

This year, the annual NERC conference is being hosted by the Connecticut Council for the Social Studies.  Learn more here:

MCSS is hosting a one day conference focused on global education on March 9th at Bridgewater State University. We encourage all to attend!

Thank you for being a part of the Massachusetts Council for Social Studies, and for being a strong advocate for the value of a quality experience learning history, civics, geography, economics, and more for every child in your community!
