Thank you!

On behalf of the Massachusetts Council for the Social Studies Executive Board, thank you for attending and participating in our annual fall one-day statewide conference last Friday. I hope you all had a wonderful experience at the conference and that you learned much from this professional development conference. We are constantly seeking ways to enhance and improve our efforts to provide you with content and resources that you can use immediately in the classroom.

You have the opportunity to earn 10 PDPs by reflecting your experience at our fall conference and designing and sharing a lesson activity or lesson plan using the contents and resources that you obtained from the conference.

You will also need to complete a cover sheet for your lesson plan. The lesson activity/plan is initially due November 15, 2019.  If you need more time, don’t hesitate to request an extension.

To receive details and specific instructions, please first take our feedback survey. This will help us better organize and provide you with meaningful professional development. Your feedback on the organization and workshop offerings for our state conference is greatly helpful and appreciated.

Please save the date for the 50th Northeast Regional Conference (NERC) for the Social Studies (#NERC50). To celebrate our fiftieth anniversary, we will be seeking to have NERC50 in Boston, Massachusetts (location to be announced) on April 6-7, 2020.  We will soon start accepting proposals for workshops at NERC.

MONDAY, April 6, will be similar to the fall one-day statewide conference, with keynote address, luncheon, concurrent and breakout sessions. We are also thinking about planning some evening events such as a historic Boston pub crawl!

TUESDAY, April 7, will be a place-based learning day in which all workshops will take place at various sites in and around Boston — we are currently talking to various historical sites, museums, libraries, historical national and state parks, organizations, and institutions.

We hope you will be interested and consider participating at NERC50 this coming April.

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to email me.

Thank you!

Sincerely,

Gorman Lee, Ed.D.
Past-President, Massachusetts Council for the Social Studies
