Update: NERC50 will take place at Cape Codder Resort and Spa in Hyannis on October 4-5, 2020

NERC50 will be on October 4-5 at Cape Codder Resort & Spa in Hyannis, MA

Massachusetts Council for the Social Studies is working closely with Cape Codder Resort and Spa located at 1225 Iyannough Road in Hyannis, Massachusetts, to hold its 50th Northeast Regional Conference for the Social Studies (NERC50) on Sunday, October 4, and Monday, October 5, 2020.

Many of the on-site workshops that were supposed to present in April NERC50 at Revere Hotel Boston Common will be presenting this fall. We are currently working on the master schedule for the two days set in October. Two-hour and half day clinics will be scheduled for Sunday, and all of the one-hour workshops will take place on Monday.

There will also be a special session presented by the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (MA DESE) to provide updates on implementing the 2018 History and Social Science Curriculum Framework and the Civics Project on Monday, October 5, at 3:30 p.m. at Cape Codder Resort and Spa. This session will be open to all K-12 educators and free to attend. We will also live-stream this session.

On Sunday late afternoon and evening, there will be two special events at Cape Codder Resort and Spa. The MCSS Educators Awards will begin at 5:00 p.m. followed by “50 Years of NERC” celebratory reception, which will start at 6:30 p.m. Both are ticketed events, which you can purchase upon registering for NERC50.

We will expand the conference exhibition to two days, starting on Sunday, October 4, from 1:30 p.m. to 4:00 p.m., and then all day on Monday, October 5, 2020, from 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. We will provide a list of our exhibitors and sponsors on our site shortly.

As for the off-site workshops at various historical sites, museums, and libraries that were supposed to take place on Tuesday, April 7, 2020, Mass Council plans to work with these sites and reschedule those PD opportunities separate from NERC50 event.

Cape Codder Resort and Spa will offer discounted rates for single/double occupancy rooms for NERC50 attendees, presenters, exhibitors, and guests for Sunday night (October 3) and Monday night (October 4). We will share more information about reserving rooms shortly.

Early registration to NERC50 will be available next month. You can register and pay by credit card, PayPal, check or money order, or Purchase Order. Please come back to this page next month for conference details, registration, and information on booking a room at the Cape Codder Resort and Spa.
