COVID-19 impact on Social Studies education

If you have time (yes, time), we would appreciate your voluntary participation in this survey. We are investigating the impact of COVID-19 on Social Studies education in our schools. This voluntary and anonymous survey will remain open for an extended period of time.

After having some informal conversations with social studies teachers and administrators since March 2020, we thought we would conduct a survey and analyze how the global pandemic has affected Social Studies curriculum and departments in our schools. As you know, Social Studies education has been marginalized in recent decades due to federal and state departments of educations’ priorities on “tested” subjects (i.e., Math, English Language Arts, and Science) and the suspension of the History and Social Science MCAS (since 2009). As schools across the Commonwealth have been forced to modify its schedules and program of studies, we are curious to see how the Social Studies fares in the district-level decision-making process, and whether districts are placing various programs at the expense of the Social Studies.
